Embracing a new beginning, I found many of my past experiences seamlessly translating into my new endeavor. Not only did I find a new career I was passionate about, but I also found a new community to
call home.
I moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in 1998 after a significant turning point in my life—major heart surgery. Born with a defective aortic valve, I was told I’d need surgery by the time I was 40. At 42, a checkup revealed that I urgently needed the operation. The surgery was a wake-up call, making me realize how short life could be and that I needed to make the most of it.
After the surgery, I decided to change my life’s direction. The warm climate of Florida and the opportunity to flip a couple of properties for the winter drew me in. I was growing tired of sitting behind a desk and took a break for a more exciting venture. But once I arrived, I never went back. By 1999, I had become a full-time REALTOR® in Fort Lauderdale, embracing a new chapter with a fresh perspective on life.
Growing up in Michigan, I was influenced by my mother and grandmother, who were both REALTORS®. Their success in real estate, primarily dealing with farmland, fascinated me. My father had a solid sales job, but his earnings were mostly spent on supporting our family. It was my mother’s real estate investments that helped get us ahead.
Riding and raising quarter horses was another important part of my early years. I dedicated myself to riding and competing, winning several national championships and serving as the president of the American Junior Quarter Horse Association in 1976. These experiences taught me patience, work ethic and a deep understanding of commitment—qualities that were crucial in my professional life.
Before moving to Florida, I built a solid career in accounting. I worked at a major accounting firm and obtained my CPA. I then transitioned to a business manager role at an architectural firm in Chicago engaged in property developments, and I continued that career in Atlanta. After going through heart surgery and in need of a new chapter, I made the transition to Florida.
Fort Lauderdale offered a unique blend of small-town charm and cultural amenities, with a strong sense of community. My venture into real estate was a natural progression. I had grown tired of overseeing administrative staff and wanted to be out in the community meeting people.
Inspired by my family's background and driven by my new outlook on life, I began my journey in real estate sales and investments. Initially, it was nerve-wracking to rely solely on commission-based income, but I was fortunate to succeed. I built my business through social networking, and many of my clients became close friends, creating a strong referral network.
My partner, Fernando, has been an integral part of my personal and professional life. We met in 2003, and he officially joined me in the real estate business full-time in 2018. Fernando handles all our marketing and back-office operations, and his background in tech, product management and being a mortgage broker has been invaluable. While I excel working one-on-one with clients, he helps keep everything behind the scenes running smoothly.
Over the years, our business has evolved. Initially focused on investors, it gradually transitioned to primary residences and second homes. COVID-19 brought significant changes, as many people flocked to Florida for its outdoor-friendly environment. We reached out to our network, understanding their changing needs and helped them find properties that suited their new lifestyles. As a result, 2020 and 2021 were among the best years in our career. Our strengths complement each other well, allowing us to navigate changes in the industry and continue delivering exceptional service to our clients.
In our free time, Fernando and I enjoy traveling, which has always been our primary recreation. However, since the pandemic, we have become more homebodies. We’ve also taken up a new hobby—boating. As members of a boat club, we are learning about boating, which also allows us to show clients waterfront properties from a unique perspective.
My approach to real estate is centered around understanding and meeting the diverse needs of my clients. Specializing in second homes, relocation clients and investors, I strive to offer comprehensive services tailored to each client's unique needs. My expertise spans various types of properties, from luxury homes and waterfront properties to condos and golf course homes. When you work with me, you not only have my support, but the support of my trusted team that shares my commitment to communication and delivering the best results possible!
Having lived in Fort Lauderdale for 25 years, I have a deep understanding of the different communities in Southeast Florida and what each has to offer. I take pride in providing personalized attention and building lasting relationships with my clients, ensuring they receive the best service and guidance throughout their real estate journey. Many of my clients have become close friends, and their referrals are a testament to the trust and confidence they place in me. My business is built on these relationships, and I strive to provide a level of service that continues to exceed expectations.
